TEAM DEVELOPMENT & FACILITATION
Presenter: Rosa McAllister

As people with disabilities and their supporters move closer to figuring out what "meaningful participation" in everyday community life is, as well as "independence" and "self-determination", there is a need to increase our knowledge and skills concerning truly effective team support. This four part series is designed to explore some of the key elements and skills related to successful team development and facilitation. The series is geared for those who are team members (as well as facilitators) for those who are involved with teams that are working together smoothly (as well as those that are "works in progress") and for anyone interested in increasing their knowledge and role in the functioning of supportive teams.

While we encourage full participation in the series as a whole, each session
can be attended individually.

SUPERVISORY DEVELOPMENT:
RECRUITMENT & RETENTION

Presenter: Michael McAllister, Ph.D.

Recruiting and retaining quality staff may be the most important activity an organization undertakes. High turnover, non-competitive pay, lack of career ladders, and changing staff roles have been identified as ongoing barriers to staff recruitment and retention for organizations supporting people with developmental disabilities. This session will explore current and emerging organizational strategies for finding and keeping good employees. An organizational development framework will be used to discuss specific strategies, issues, and emerging practices. This session is open to Human Resources staff and all involved in agency hiring and staff development.

Attendance at all six sessions of this series is required to receive a certificate.

DISCUSSION GROUP:
EMPLOYMENT

Moderator: Michelle Sparling

This new event has been developed to provide a forum for Employment Supervisiors and Directors to keep abreast of current happenings in employment of people with disabilities. Designed as an informal gathering, we will encourage open discussion of employment-related topics, share experiences in operating employment programs, as well as share concerns, ideas, and of course, successes with colleagues in the world of employment support.

At this first gathering we will consider topics of interest for future sessions, review current issues, discuss possible directions the group may take, and review alternative methods for sharing of ideas and information using available technology.

Please come, share your thoughts, and help us to get this group started!

SUPERVISORY DEVELOPMENT:
ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS
Presenter: Michael McAllister, PhD

How do we create routines that maximize our work team's efforts and achievements? This session is designed to offer new and experienced managers an opportunity to reflect on their organizational skills, explore factors that most affect their day-to-day routines, and practice strategies to effectively manage their time and efforts toward increased accomplishment.

TRAINERS' DEVELOPMENT:
NEW APPROACHES TO LEARNING & STAFF DEVELOPMENT

These new one-day "how-to" events, designed for local trainers, will provide developed curricular information and materials (curriculum plus interactive training materials in a variety of formats), in specific topical areas.

THE ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE NEW SUPERVISOR / MANAGER
Presenter: Rosa McAllister

Understanding what it really means to be an effective supervisor in our changing community-based field is the first step to being an effective supervisor. Yet, how often do we neglect to provide information or guidance to our front-line managers to help them fully understand the complexities of their roles and our expectations of them?

As our longest running training series and still one of our most popular, Networks' Supervisory Development series has provided hundreds of local managers a general course on the roles and expectations of supervisors for more than 15 years. We are thrilled to now offer a condensed version of this course to area trainers for their in-house use. Participants will receive a trainers' packet displaying examples of how this curriculum can be used in multiple formats and settings.
